Snyder, Director of the Interior Department's Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSM), today announced the appointment of Allen D. Klein as Assistant Director for Field Operations. In his new position based in Washington, D.C., Klein, a North Dakota native, will be in charge of OSM's 13 field offices, located in coal regions across the country. "OSM will benefit greatly from AI Klein's professional expertise and managerial experience," Snyder said. "His appointment, effective June 1, will give our field office directors an experienced central point of contact for managing the flow of information between headquarters and the field offices." Prior to this appointment, Klein served as OSM's Deputy Assistant Director at the agency's Western Support Center, Denver, Colorado. He joined OSM at that location in April 1982, beginning his career as technical center administrator. Before joining OSM, Klein held three positions with the North Dakota Public Service Commission, first as a public service specialist, then as an environmental scientist, and, finally, from August 1977 to April 1982 as Assistant Director for Reclamation. Klein holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from North Dakota State University and master's degrees from the University of Idaho and the University of Colorado. -DOI-
