                 OSM AWARDS NORTH DAKOTA $486,822
            TO REGULATE SURFACE EFFECTS OF COAL MINING


     The Interior Department's Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and
Enforcement (OSM) is providing North Dakota $486,822 to assist the state
in regulating the surface effects of coal mining.
     The  grant will assist in paying North Dakota's inspection and
enforcement costs including equipment, supplies, and transportation.
