                    OSM AWARDS NAVAJO TRIBE $316,476
                      REGULATORY DEVELOPMENT GRANT
                                    
The Interior Department s Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and
Enforcement (OSM) is providing the Navajo tribe with a $316,476 grant to
assist in developing coal mining rules and regulations in support of a
permanent regulatory program for tribal lands in Arizona and New Mexico.
The grant, which evolved from the 1992 Energy Policy Act, pays half of
the Navajo s inspection and enforcement costs, including equipment, supplies
and transportation.
