                     OSM AWARDS HOPI TRIBE $136,390
                      REGULATORY DEVELOPMENT GRANT
                                    
The Interior Department s Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and
Enforcement (OSM) is providing the Hopi tribe with a $136,390 grant to assist
in developing coal mining rules and regulations in support of a permanent
regulatory program for tribal lands in Arizona.
The grant, which evolved from the 1992 Energy Policy Act, pays half of
the Hopi s inspection and enforcement costs, including equipment, supplies
and transportation.
