                  OSM AWARDS HOPI TRIBE $50, 000 GRANT
           FOR ABANDONED MINE LANDS PROGRAM

          The Interior Department's Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and

Enforcement (OSM) is providing the Hopi Tribe with a $50, 000 grant to 

assist in developing coal mining rules and regulations in support of a 

permanent regulatory program for tribal lands in Arizona.

     The grant, which evolved from the 1992 Energy Policy Act, will assist

in purchasing a modular office building.
